Biography
Wynn Breslin, an established professional artist, earned a
Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Ohio Wesleyan University and a Masters
Degree from the University of Delaware. She also attended Syracuse
University, and completed art studies at The Haystack School in Maine.
Primarily a painter in watercolor and oil mediums, she also is an
award-winning sculptor. Breslin taught painting in oil and watercolor at
the Delaware Art Museum for 25 years, and also taught art in the public
and private schools of Delaware for over a decade. In 1963, she opened her
studio in the historic "Wedge" area overlooking White Clay Creek Valley in
Delaware. In l997, she opened her second studio in Nobleboro, Maine. Both
studios have inspirational views where visitors are invited to see her
fine efforts on paper and canvas.
Breslin award-winning paintings grace the walls of corporate board
rooms, public institutions, and private collectors worldwide. Among these
are the Delaware Division of Libraries, Rodney Square Club, Hotel DuPont,
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Delaware, Bank of Delaware, Beneficial
Corp., Sovereign Bank, Artisans Savings, Syracuse University, and the
University of Delaware.
Previous Shows
Art enthusiasts have seen Breslin works
in numerous juried and invitational exhibitions; she has won awards which
include a National Award for Watercolor from the American Federation of
the Arts, NYC, top prizes at the Chester County Art Association, PA,
several first prizes at Rehoboth Art League, DE, Chadds Ford, PA, and The
Four State Regional Art Exhibition at the University of Delaware. She has
been described as "an artist of many dimensions", because her work is as
varied as her life as artist, mother, and educator. Her canvases have been
described as "colorful, creative, exciting," and "strong sensitive, and
powerful." One art critic from The News Journal reviewed a solo show
describing her collages as "abstract expressionism at its best."
Another
review of watercolors included: "Of pivotal importance in both her floral
and landscape paintings is the simple fact that Mrs. Breslin is genuinely
inspired by her surroundings. Her work shines as this enthusiasm is
tempered by the technical skill at her command." Her oils caught the
attention of another critic who wrote: "she is excellent at depicting
mists, a very difficult thing to do on canvas. Many of her paintings are
done in White Clay Creek Valley, north of Newark, and there is a fine
triptych of hills and snow in that area entitled 'Winter, the Wedge'. I
found a number of her paintings downright poetic!"
She has exhibited
paintings, prints and sculpture in numerous shows throughout the East,
including the National Arts Club, the Smithsonian Institute, The
Benedictine Art Awards, NYC, and Summit Art Center, N.J. Solo shows in DE
include: The University of Delaware, Carspecken & Scott Gallery,
Hardcastles Gallery, You've Been Framed Gallery, Rehoboth Art
League,Tideline Gallery, and others. In Maine, she has exhibited in juried
shows at the Maine Art Gallery, The Boothbay Region Art Foundation, The
Talent Tree, Augusta, Bowdoin College, and Haystack Gallery, Deer Isle.
