| The rocky coast of Maine, with its inlets and lakes is the inspiration
for this painting. The wild flowers that line the foreground and the lone evergreen, add a colorful
feeling to this view looking out to sea. The sailboats are far enough offshore to catch the wind,
yet, it is serenely peaceful along the shoreline.
The technique of using brush painting with stippling and sponges on wet paper adds to the texture. The
palette knife has scraped into the wet paper to bring out other white areas bringing a feeling of spontaneity to the painting.
